• Illness or personal emergency
• Unsafe working conditions
• Vehicle breakdown or mechanical failure
• Extreme weather conditions making travel unsafe

7.3 I will provide as much notice as possible if I need to cancel or reschedule
an appointment.
8. PROPERTY ACCESS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
8.1 You must provide clear and safe access to the piano.
8.2 The following conditions must be met:
• The top of the piano must be clear of all items
• Adequate lighting must be available
• Safe access to the piano location must be provided
• A quiet working environment should be maintained where possible for
accurate tuning.
8.3 If, upon arrival, the piano is deemed to be:
• In an unsafe location
• Inaccessible
• In unserviceable condition
• In conditions that make accurate tuning impossible
I reserve the right to cancel the appointment and charge a £60 call-out
fee to cover travel costs.
8.4 Examples of unserviceable conditions include:
• Severe structural damage to the piano
• Missing or broken critical components
• Extreme infestation (moths, rodents, etc.)
• Water damage or mold
• Safety hazards
9. PETS AND HOUSEHOLD ENVIRONMENT
9.1 Please ensure that pets are secured in a separate room during the
appointment for safety reasons and to allow for accurate tuning.
9.2 A reasonably quiet working environment is required for accurate tuning.
Please minimize background noise where possible during the appointment.
9.3 I reserve the right to pause work if environmental conditions make accurate
tuning impossible.
10. INSPECTION AND ADDITIONAL WORK
10.1 During tuning or servicing, I may identify additional issues requiring
repair, regulation, or voicing.
10.2 I will inform you of any additional issues discovered and provide a quote
for the necessary work.
10.3 Any work beyond the originally agreed service requires your explicit
approval before proceeding.
10.4 Additional work may incur additional charges, which will be clearly
communicated before any work begins.
10.5 You are under no obligation to authorize additional work. However,
declining recommended repairs or maintenance may affect the piano's
performance and tuning stability.
11. LIABILITY AND INSURANCE
11.1 I carry public liability insurance for accidental damage to property
during service provision.
11.2 While I take every care with your piano, I am not liable for:
• Pre-existing damage or defects to the piano
• Damage caused by the piano's age, condition, or previous neglect
• String breakage (see Section 12 below)
• Broken or worn parts that fail during normal servicing
• Issues arising from your failure to follow maintenance recommendations
• Damage to the piano caused by environmental factors after service
completion
• Damage to piano stools, benches, or accessories not directly related to
the service provided
11.3 I will not be liable for any damage caused to the piano through regular
maintenance and servicing. This includes, but is not limited to: string
snapping, broken parts, and broken stools.
11.4 Any claims for damage allegedly caused during service must be reported to
me within 48 hours of service completion.
11.5 My total liability for any claim will not exceed the value of the service
provided.
12. STRING BREAKAGE
12.1 During tuning or servicing, I will avoid breaking strings to the best of
my ability using proper technique and equipment.
12.2 However, if strings are corroded, rusted, or old, they are significantly
more likely to snap during the tuning process.
12.3 String breakage in such cases is due to the age and condition of the
strings, not negligence or improper tuning technique.
12.4 I am not liable for broken strings.
12.5 If a string does break during an appointment, I will:
• Notify you immediately
• Provide a quote for string replacement
• Offer to replace the string if you authorize the additional work
12.6 String replacement is charged separately from the tuning service.
13. DISCLAIMERS
13.1 TUNING STABILITY
Tuning stability depends on many factors, including:
• Piano age and overall condition
• Environmental conditions (temperature and humidity fluctuations)
• How recently the piano was last tuned
• How frequently the piano is played
• Whether the piano has been moved
I cannot guarantee long-term tuning stability for:
• Pianos in poor condition
• Pianos in unsuitable environments (extreme temperature/humidity)
• Pianos that have not been regularly maintained
• Pianos that are moved frequently
13.2 PITCH RAISE
Pianos that have not been tuned for 2+ years may require a pitch
raise, which involves at least two tunings in one appointment:
• The first tuning corrects the overall pitch
• The second tuning fine-tunes the piano
Even after a pitch raise, the piano may settle and require a follow-up
tuning within 1-3 months (at additional cost) to achieve full stability.
This is normal and expected for pianos that have been neglected.
13.3 ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS
Piano tuning stability is significantly affected by environmental
conditions. Pianos are made of wood, metal, felt, and leather—all
materials that expand and contract with temperature and humidity changes.
For optimal tuning stability, I recommend:
• Maintaining room temperature between 18-22°C
• Maintaining humidity levels between 40-60%
• Avoiding placement of the piano near radiators, heating vents, windows,
or exterior walls
• Using a piano humidifier during winter months if the room is very dry
I am not liable if these recommendations are not followed and the piano's
tuning stability or condition deteriorates as a result.
15. PIANO CARE AND MAINTENANCE RECOMMENDATIONS
15.1 For optimal piano health and tuning stability, I recommend:
• Regular tuning every 6-12 months
• Maintaining consistent temperature (18-22°C)
• Maintaining consistent humidity (40-60%)
• Keeping the piano away from radiators, heating vents, windows, and
exterior walls
• Playing the piano regularly (pianos benefit from being played)
• Keeping the top of the piano clear
• Professional servicing every 5-10 years (regulation and voicing)
15.2 These recommendations are provided in good faith based on industry best
practices.
15.3 I am not liable if recommendations are not followed and the piano's
condition or performance deteriorates as a result.
